October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and Mazuma is proud to once again join this international initiative as a Cybersecurity Awareness Champion designated organization. We work year-round to help protect our Members, Team Members, data, and systems from an ever-growing and changing landscape of online threats and fraud. This yearly campaign reminds us that simple actions can make a big difference and gives us an opportunity to share the most impactful tips and information with our Members and community.

The theme of Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2025, which is an initiative of the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency, is Building a Cyber Strong America. This theme highlights the need to strengthen our personal, business, and civic infrastructure against cyber threats to ensure resilience and security for our communities.
Four Essential Steps
Everyone has a part to play in keeping our devices, and the personal and financial data they contain, as secure as possible. You can do your part by taking these four essential steps:
- Update software regularly: Install updates promptly on all devices. Don’t click “Remind me later.” Updates patch vulnerabilities that attackers can exploit. Turn on automatic updates whenever possible.
- Use strong passwords and a password manager: Create passwords that are at least 16 characters, random (mixed case letters, numbers, symbols), and unique for every account. Use a password manager to generate, fill, and remember them for you.
- Turn on multifactor authentication (MFA) wherever possible: MFA adds an extra layer of security to your accounts. Use it everywhere it’s offered, and choose the most secure method available, such as a passkey or authenticator app.
- Recognize and report phishing: Stay alert for suspicious messages. Always verify the sender before clicking links or opening attachments. If you spot a scam, use the platform’s “Report Phishing” tool.
Stay Tuned for More!
Throughout Cybersecurity Awareness month (and beyond!), we’ll be sharing tips, information, and resources with our Members on our blog and our social media. Check back often and follow our social media channels to stay up-to-date!
