Dear Members,

As we approach the end of 2016, a lot of people tend to look back and reflect on what was. However, we here at Mazuma prefer to look forward and focus on what is to come. Last year brought some exciting changes and enhancements, but those are just a taste at what’s to come. The year 2017 is shaping up to be a monumental year, and I’d love to tell you about some of the things we can all look forward to:

  1. One of our guiding principles at Mazuma is to always be Member and Team Member first. YOU are and always will be our focus. My belief is that “to whom much is given, much is expected.” Thus, our purpose as a growing organization is to make Kansas City a better place to live, work and bank. Our Member experience plays a big part in that. We are a purpose-driven organization, and whether that means placing more focus on improving various processes or delivering more specific and diligent training to our team members next year, we are committed to making it happen. Look for several enhancements to our member experience in the year 2017.
  2. Mazuma currently has eight branches, but in early 2017, we’ll be welcoming a brand-new branch. This project has been in the works for a long time, and we’re thrilled that it’s finally becoming a reality. This new branch will open in a growing area of Kansas City and reflects our ongoing commitment to the prosperity of our City. It is sure to be in an exciting and vibrant location. Where is that, you ask? Well, that would ruin the surprise. We’ll tell you more next year.
  3. With the new year quickly approaching, it also means that tax season is almost here. Before that scares you too much, remember that Mazuma’s Finance Works tool is free to all of our Members and can help ease the stress of tax time. Mazuma also has very wise wealth advisors who are eager to help you with any of your financial-planning needs — from how to set budget goals, to learning how and when to open an IRA.

This is only a taste of what Mazuma has planned, and I can’t wait to share more of our member enhancements in a future edition. Here’s to an exciting 2017!! See you next year!

Dear Members,

In a world full of financial institutions, what sets Mazuma apart? Yes, we’re a credit union full of great Members and convenient products and services. But what else? What makes Mazuma so special? Well, we love where we are. We love Kansas City. A lot. Mazuma has been a KC institution for over 65 years, and during all those years, we’ve never forgotten about you, the Member. We want you to Bank Happy, and we’ll do just about anything to make it happen.

Here are just a few instances that show our dedication:

  1. The Raymore branch remodel project has been on our to-do list for awhile, and we’re thrilled to check it off. You told us what you wanted to see in this branch, and we listened. During the recent remodel, we removed the wall units with telephones and expanded the floor plan to better represent our brand in one of our busiest and most successful branches. We hope you’re as thrilled with the results as we are!
  2. Mazuma’s partnership with Sporting Kansas City has been going strong for over a year now, and we’re proud to be affiliated with one of the strongest organizations in KC. This partnership has provided Mazuma with wonderful opportunities, including the Mazuma Mezzanine, which has one of the best views at Children’s Mercy Park, and the launch of our first credit card rewards program with the Sporting Blue Card.
  3. We’re continuing to find new ways to help our Members Bank Happy. Our goal is to make Kansas City a better place to live and work, and the Member experience is a big part of that. On a larger scale, we’re proud to have established a community service program known as “Corporate Social Responsibility.” We dedicate a lot of resources to making Kansas City the best it can be, and we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished. Since March 2014, we have volunteered 4, 663 hours through our CSR program. In addition, Mazuma has partnered with Junior Achievement to deliver financial education to students throughout the KC area. The program is designed to teach children the importance of saving. Children who open a new savings account with Mazuma are matched $1 for every $2 they save up to $100. In 2015, the children saved $2,119, and Mazuma matched $539. But all of that is only a piece of what we do. You can learn about all of the things we do for KC on our Community page.

Whether we’re hosting a dance party in the lobby at one of our branches or helping Members with their first home, there’s always something to smile about at Mazuma. I am so excited about what is to come, and I hope you are, too.
