Fraud Reminder

Mazuma Credit Union would like to remind all Members and non-members to never respond to an email, phone call or text that asks for any personal information. Mazuma Credit Union will never ask for personal information unless you contact Mazuma for account access.

Recently, there has been a series of fraudulent “Smishing” scams that have affected organizations and text message recipients across nearly all industries and regions. Smishing is a form of criminal activity using social engineering techniques. The name is derived from “SMs phishing”. SMS (Short Message Service) is the technology used for text messages on cell phones.

The true intent of such “Smishing” attempts to acquire the personal information of the recipients and/or to defraud those recipients. Mazuma Credit Union strongly advises recipients not to respond to the points of contact mentioned in such text messages, and asks that you always check the Mazuma website for updated alerts on current and past fraudulent scams. Mazuma Credit Union takes proactive measures to consistently educate its Members about privacy policies.

Mazuma Credit Union will never send specific account information, web links, or unnecessary contact via email, phone, or web. In the event that Mazuma Members and/or non-members are attacked by a phishing scam, Mazuma is quick to react by posting specific scam information on their website as soon as possible.

If you have responded to a Smishing or phishing attack and provided account information, contact Mazuma Credit Union at abuse@mazuma.org or by phone at 816-361-4194 or 888-361-4194 immediately. If you are not a member of Mazuma Credit Union and gave out your account information, please contact your financial institution directly.
