Fraudulent Phone Scam
June 6, 2008

We have received notice of a phone fraud attempt, known as "Vishing", that appears to be from Mazuma. Callers claim to represent Mazuma and ask you to call 816-298-0233 or 816-399-4987 to reactive your account. There may be other vishing calls like this one that list various phone numbers.

If you should receive such a message, DO NOT RESPOND BY CALLING THE PHONE NUMBER. As with all vishing scams, the sender is attempting to obtain personal information from those who receive and respond to the call.

If you have called a number other than Mazuma Credit Union's (816-361-4194 or 888-361-4194), please contact the Credit Union immediately.

In the future, if you receive notice that you need to call the Credit Union, please verify the phone number by checking your account statement or the phone book.

This is not a promotional e-mail. Please call us immediately at 1-800-519-1130 regarding recent activity on your account. We're available 24/7 to take your call.

Please disregard this e-mail if you've already call us since the date this e-mail was sent.

We have received notice of an e-mail fraud attempt, known as "Phishing”, that was sent appearing to be from Mazuma. The e-mail states your account has been suspended, and you need to click on a link to update your account. 

If you should receive such an e-mail, DO NOT RESPOND BY CLICKING ON THE LINK TO UPDATE YOUR ACCOUNT. As with all phishing scams, the sender is attempting to obtain personal information from those who receive and respond to the e-mail.

If you have clicked on the link and provided your information, contact Mazuma Credit Union at 816-361-4194 or 888-361-4194 immediately.

In the future, never click on a link from an e-mail. If you receive an e-mail that appears to be from Mazuma, always type Mazuma’s address (www.mazuma.org) in your address bar, or call 816-361-4194, toll-free 888-361-4194.

The fraudulent e-mail reads as follows:

Fraudulent E-mail/Phone Scam

We have received notice of an e-mail message fraud attempt, known as “Phishing,” that was sent appearing to be from Mazuma. The e-mail asks you to call a number to take care of a debit card issu.

If you should receive such an e-mail, DO NOT RESPOND BY CALLING THE PHONE NUMBER. As with all phishing scams, the sender is attempting to obtain personal information from those who receive and respond to the e-mail.

If you have called the number and provided your information, contact Mazuma Credit Union at 816-361-4194 or 888-361-4194 immediately.

In the future, never call a phone number or click on a link listed in an e-mail. If you receive an e-mail that appears to be from Mazuma, always type Mazuma’s address (www.mazuma.org) in your address bar, or call the phone number listed on your account statement or in the phone book.

The fraudulent message reads as follows:

Contact us immediately for assistance.

If you should receive such an e-mail, DO NOT RESPOND BY CLICKING ON THE LINK TO RESTORE YOUR ACCOUNT. As with all phishing scams, the sender is attempting to obtain personal information from those who receive and respond to the e-mail.

If you have clicked on the link and provided your information, contact Mazuma Credit Union at 816-361-4194 or 888-361-4194 immediately.

In the future, never click on a link from an e-mail. If you receive an e-mail that appears to be from Mazuma, always type Mazuma’s address (www.mazuma.org) in your address bar, or call 816-361-4194, toll-free 888-361-4194. Note, just because a link shows up in an e-mail as “www.mazuma.org” doesn’t mean that is where the link takes you.

The fraudulent e-mail reads as follows:

Dear <Name>,

To protect your Mazuma Credit Union account from unauthorized access, we have set limit of failed login attempts.  Unfortunately, you have just reached critical number of attempts, so your access to Online Banking has been limited for the security purposes. 

To restore your account access, please login to www.mazuma.org.
